The Enemy Stars is a pretty solid Golden Age SF book. Stylistically it reminded me a lot of Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke. It's definitely hard SF, with the majority of the plot focusing on a group of scientists on a deep space mission, and the ways in which they use their considerable scientific skills to troubleshoot a number of /5.
